dj. First Edition. Quarto, 108 pp., illustrated with black and white photographs throughout, four colour plates included; from the collection of the Aviation Historical Society of Australia with associated stamps and markings. A very good copy with dust-jacket. This book has an unusual history. Published originally in 1942 when…the author was the R.A.A.F.'s Director of Recruiting, it was virtually a straight autobiography with only a few photographs. It nevertheless became a recognised classic. Many years later Norman Clifford, an experienced commercial artist, and WWI aircraft historian, who had held the original manuscript in his possession since 1947, approached David Cobby, the author's grandson, and suggested a reprinted edition. This is the reprinted book in a new semi-pictorial form as part of the celebrations of the R.A.A.F.'s 60 Years Diamond Jubilee in 1981.
