Russell facing a facsimile letter written by the Western artist to the author, and 11 other plates, endpapers illustrated by Joe De Yong. Original red cloth boards, gilt titles and ornamentation, brown… patterned dust jacket with red and black titles and ornamentation and publisher's catalog printed on the inside. A near fine copy, ink inscription to front free endpaper, p.95/96 with small loss of margin. § First edition. Reminiscences by the man who called himself "the oldest cowboy in Montana" (b. 1854), including memories of his friendship with the artist Charles M. Russell. The illustrations are mostly from photographs; the color frontispiece is from an illustration by Russell.
