The coverillustration by `Barbelle' echoes the originalKemble drawings of Huck, but makes him lookignorant, a quality that Twain objected to inKemble's earliest drawings. The genesis of thissheet music is obscure; it does not seem to beconnected with any film version of HUCK FINN. Infact, the first film version of HUCK FINN was notuntil 1919 (preceded by 1909 films of PRINCE ANDTHE PAUPER and DEATH DISK, 1912 and 1917 films ofTOM SAWYERs, and a 1916 PUDD'NHEAD WILSON). Cliff Hess was a composer and author of musical songs and at this time he was Irving Berlin's secretary as well. Lewis and Young, who frequently collaborated, were best known for their music for films. Both were charter members… of ASCAP. Huck Finn. Sheet music with illustration on front of wrapper, two pages of music and a full page advertisement showing the first page of the music for Irving Berlin's "Mr. Jazz Himself" on the back wrapper.
