Cette confusion du relieur (ou malversation volontaire) est très surprenante et nous n'en connaissons pas d'autres exemples en reliure ancienne. Il n'en demeure pas moins qu'il s'agit là d'un défaut et représente tout au plus une curiosité historique. L'édition de Malleville est sans doute celle de 1649 dont elle présente la collation. Reliure en plein veau blond glacé XVIII. Dos à nerfs orné de 5 fleurons. Pièce de titre en maroquin rouge. Traces de frottement. Bel exemplaire. Ex libris du XXe J. C. Courbin. 4 papillons collés, notices de livres des recueils de poésie de Malleville. * Recueil composé de sonnets, d'élégies, de rondeaux, de madrigaux et d'épigrammes. Malleville occupe une place importante dans le mouvement Précieux et fut un des maîtres de la poésie amoureuse. "Son style, abondant en images et pointes, fut très admiré des Précieux. En fait, il représente un effort original pour tenter de concilier le purisme de l'école de Malherbe [.] et les subtilités du Marinisme." The poet Claude Malleville (1597-1647) is one of the most notable representatives of the generation that immediately followed that of Malherbe. He is, from his beginnings, around 1620, a poet appreciated for the quality of his verses, a regular at the Hôtel de Rambouillet and the salon of Mademoiselle de Gournay, he collaborated brilliantly on La Guirlande de Julie and composed rondeaux and epigrams, which are recommended by the ease of their turn and craftsmanship. He was attached as secretary to the Maréchal de Bassompierre, and once the latter was arrested, Malleville died shortly after. * (6) 370pp. (11).

Voici ce qu'en dit Pellisson dans son Histoire de l'Académie françoise : "Il y a un volume de ses Poésies, imprimées après sa mort, qui ont toutes de l'esprit, du feu, un beau tour de vers, beaucoup de délicatesse et de douceur, et marquent grande fécondité ; mais dont il y en a peu, ce me semble, de bien achevées".Ce brave homme, habitué de l'Hôtel de Rambouillet, fut l'un des premiers membres de l'Académie française, mais il ne demeure immortel que dans les fiches de quelques bibliographes chenus.
