Añadir al carritoOctavo, red cloth with black and gilt lettering, [4], 173, [8] pp. A guide for girls by Francis Edward Clark, an American clergyman and founder of the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor. The text reads somewhat more informally than most manuals of the era, and is full of anecdotes of virtuous or immoral girls: "These c…hapters were originally given as lectures to an audience embracing hundreds of girls and young women, and the somewhat colloquial form of address has not been changed, as the author wishes to speak to the audience that reads this book rather than merely to write for them." Includes chapters on "A Young Woman's Rights," and "A Young Woman's Wrongs" (among the latter: "The Art of Pleasing," "An Inordinate Love of Imagination", and "Love of Dress"). Another chapter frowns upon "aimlessnessness", "Romantic Sickness," "Weak Nerves," and "Semi-Invalidism", while a chapter on "Frivolity and Flirtation" covers "Girlish Wild Oats," "The Flippant Young Woman," and The Gossip Tippler." Ten in OCLC. A good copy with occasional smudge to pages, pencil underlining and annotations to pages, staining to covers, bumping to corners, wear to corners and spine tips.
