Covers are very clean and intact except for moderate bumping to corners and slight bumping to head and tail of spine. A Very Good, almost Near Fine copy. Volume V in the Publications of the Hudson's Bay Record Society series. A collection of reprinted early records related to the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) from 1670-1674 including the 1670 charter incorporating HBC. Contents are listed as follows: "Preface," "List of Meetings," "Introduction," "Minutes of the Hudson's Bay Company, 1670-1674," "Appendix A: The Royal Charter Incorporating the Hudson's Bay Company, A.D. 1670," "Appendix B: Busse Island a Perpetuity Graunted to the Adventures of England Trading to Hudson's Bay," "Appendix C: Ledger Accounts of Governor, Deputy Governors and Members of Committee Holding Office 1671-74, and of All Adventurers Named in the Charter of May 2, 1670," "Appendix D: Ledger Accounts of Ships' Captains, 1668-74," "Appendix E: Incident Charges of Voyages to Hudson Bay, 1668-72," "Appendix F: Groseilliers and Radison," "Appendix G: Biographical," and "Index." The Hudson's Bay Company was founded in 1670 as a fur trading company. HBC once controlled a commercial monopoly throughout the entirety of Rupert's Land, a territory expressly formed for HBC's monopoly. Rupert's Land also comprised the Hudson Bay drainage basin. The Canadian government gained control of Rupert's Land in 1870 following negotiations with HBC. HBC is still in business to this day as Canada's largest and oldest corporation. Today, HBC is commonly referred to as "The Bay" and has many brick-and-mortar retail stores as well as an online store. HBC has since changed its product line to reflect current interests, and as of 2023, no longer sells animal fur products.
