Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. A rare and visually striking 1723 German academic broadside produced to celebrate a Jubilee at the University of Altdorf, combining bold blackletter typography with decorative baroque woodcut ornament and civic praise for Nurnberg and Altdorff. Description; A scarce early eighteenth century German broadside titled Freuden voller Zuruff An die Hoch lobliche Stadte Nurnberg und Altdorff, issued in 1723 to commemorate a Jubilae Academici connected to the University of Altdorf. Printed in bold blackletter type, the work features elaborate decorative woodcut elements including cherubs, ornamental borders, and typographic flourishes characteristic of German baroque printing. The text consists of celebratory and devotional verse honouring the cities of Nurnberg and Altdorff and reflecting the academic and civic importance of the institution during this period. The layout is highly visual and structured, suggesting use for ceremonial or public distribution rather than private reading. Works of this nature were typically produced for a specific event and not intended for long term preservation, making surviving examples uncommon. This piece remains an attractive and historically resonant example of early academic ephemera. Collation Bibliography Printed broadside or small pamphlet comprising multiple leaves as present. Blackletter text with woodcut decorative elements throughout. Title dated 1723. No standard bibliographic reference traced, typical for ephemeral academic material of this type. Why It Matters; Academic ephemera from the early eighteenth century is significantly rarer than formal book production, as such material was created for specific events and rarely retained. This example provides a direct insight into the ceremonial and intellectual culture of the University of Altdorf, an important institution within the Holy Roman Empire that is no longer in existence. The combination of civic pride, religious language, and academic celebration reflects the values of the period, while the strong visual design enhances its appeal as a display piece. Collectors of early German printing, university history, and baroque ephemera will recognise the scarcity and importance of such works.
