Replete with many dozens of photographs, portraits, illustrations. Exceedingly rare local history of the settlement of Baker Lake, N.W.T., comprising of a history of the founding, and present state of Baker Lake (at time of publication), the Baker Lake Residents' Association, a history of the religious missions present in town, details on the activities of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a separate section dedicated to the historical role of the Hudson's Bay Company, the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, much information on the educational system, and naturally the famed arts and crafts culture to emerge from Baker Lake. Not to be confused with a similarly titled, and more commonly available local history ("Baker Lake, N.W.T. 1870-1970") with a later publication date of 1970. Lightest rubbing to the covers, contents remain bright, clean, and unmarked with tight, sound binding; very good+. Corresponds to OCLC #1097881262.
