Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. 10 x 8 inches. Two copies with printed wrappers bound- in of HELLZAPOPPIN - one copyrighted 1938, the other copyrighted 1940 - custom-bound in full, crushed moroccan leather, gilt ruled, dentelles, heavy marbelized endpapers, with gilt titles front cover - First Copy of the First Edition of HELLZAPOPPIN Winter Garden Theatre Sept 22, 1938 - Dec 17, 1941 1404 Performances Presented to Lambs Club by The Authors and Producers Olsen and Johnson. On flyleaf is a full page original illustration in black ink signed Ole with two cartoon figures flanking the inscription: "To The Lambs/ Lest You Forget/ The Maniacs Olsen (signed) and Johnson (signed)/ March 14, 1943" with one figure proclaiming "sons of fun", the other bearing a placard "Hellzapoppin" The musical revue, a vaudevillian romp with risque humor, had songs by music and lyrics by Sammy Fain and Charles Tobias. The revue was a hit, running for over three years, and was at the time the longest-running Broadway musical, with 1,404 performances. A national tour followed, and a movie version with the playwright performers plus Martha Ray, followed in 1941. In 1976, there was a stage revival starring Jerry Lewis and Lynn Redgrave, but it closed on the road, never making it back to Broadway.
