Softcover. Condición: Very Good. Ilya Kabakov is regarded as Russia's most important living artist. Together with his wife Emilia, he has conceptualized 'Monument to a Lost Civilization.' The project reconstructs the condition of life in the Soviet Union and its institutional paradigms through the voices, false hopes, and dreams of the people. This project represents the main dream of the two artists for the last ten years. The book brings together sketches, drawings, and photographs of thirty-eight of the artists' installations (chosen by Kabakov as his best). This 'Monument to a Lost Civilization' is the first time Kabakov's oeuvre has been displayed this way -- and as such it is the most thorough, unified treatment to date of this important artist's work. Concerning itself with the 'everydayness' of life in the former Soviet Republics, the entire book attempts to document a complex psychological, political, and social web that has since been changed irrevocably and forever.

Trade Paperback. Condición: Used - Good. To leaf through this book is to journey into the world of Remo Salvadori, where reading--observing--is as intimate and creative a process as making art. 'The Observer not the Object Observed' centers on the titular work, seminal and still resoundingly topical some 25 years after its creation: in shifting the observer, active in the experience of 'seeing,' to the center of the piece, Salvadori continues to redefine the relationship between art and viewer, and to redefine the viewers themselves. Slight scratching/scuffing on cover. Book has minor shelf wear. slight tear on top of spine.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. On the 1950s lyrical abstractions of a little-known protagonist of Italian artA member of the Movimento Spaziale group founded by Lucio Fontana after World War II, Italian painter Edmondo Bacci (191378) began exhibiting internationally in 1956, and was one of the few artists on the Italian art scene to process the latest developments in abstraction. This catalog looks at the more lyrical side of Bacci, when his career reached international success. In the early 1950s, Peggy Guggenheim and various art historians admired his art and celebrated the generative force of his color, his disruption of spatial planes and the circular rhythms of his brushwork. This book also explores the evolution of Baccis idiom of color and light by examining his seminal works of the 1950s, which were acquired by US collectors through the advocacy of both Guggenheim and Alfred H. Barr, Jr. Edmondo Bacci: Energy and Light presents an artist who has been unjustly neglected in the annals of English-language art history. Softcover. Small quarto. Softcover. Illustrated wraps. 213 pages, 3 unnumbered pages : illustrations (chiefly color) ; 27 cm. "From April 1 through September 18, 2023, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents Edmondo Bacci: Energy and Light, organized by Chiara Bertola, Curator and Manager of Contemporary Art Projects, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice. The exhibition will feature approximately eighty works--many of which have never been exhibited before--including paintings and unpublished drawings on loan from the Archivio Edmondo Bacci, as well as from private collections and international museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palm Springs Art Museum. It will be the first and most extensive retrospective dedicated to Venetian artist Edmondo Bacci (1913-1978). The exhibition focuses primarily on the 1950s, the most lyrical and creative period of the artist's career, and when he achieved international success. Indeed, during this period, as an established exponent of Spazialismo, and among the most innovative artists of the Italian art scene, Bacci captured the attention of Peggy Guggenheim and leading art critics through the novelty of his painting, the generative force of his color, his rupture of spatial planes, and the circular rhythm of his brushstrokes. Bacci was one of the finest representatives of Venetian post-war art, together with, among others, Tancredi Parmeggiani and Emilio Vedova, who also achieved international success and acclaim. Bacci was also one of the few artists in Italy to understand the possibilities of the latest type of abstraction, merging contemporary trends in Europe and the United States with his unique and personal style. The exhibition tells this story through works that are crucial to understanding the evolution of the pictorial language of color and light that so impressed Guggenheim, as well as Alfred H. Barr Jr, the director of the Museum of Modern Art of New York, who acquired Avvenimento #13R in 1953. The work, now in the holdings of the New York museum, makes a special return to Italy, where it will be on public view for the first time. Edmondo Bacci: Energy and Light is accompanied by a substantial illustrated catalogue, edited by Marsilio Arte, which contains essays by curator Chiara Bertola, Martina Manganello, Barry Schwabsky, Toni Toniato, and Riccardo Venturi." VG. Light corner bumping, otherwise clean and unmarked.
