"Hangover House was originally conceived as a stage-play titled "The Body's Upstairs" which was written by Sax Rohmer and his wife, Elizabeth. Cay Van Ash recalls: "Negotiations for production were begun and seemed to be going well. But the threat of war [WWII] already hung heavy on the air" (Master of Villainy 252). The plot was reworked as a Bimb? Shi Bar? K short story and published as "Serpent Wind" in Collier's on November 7, 1942. It was rewritten yet again as a serial and ran as Hangover House in Collier's from February 19 to March 19, 1949, the last of 208 issues containing Sax Rohmer's work." (Hangover House, website).
