Hirsch II, 2. - Maximilian Joseph Chelius (1794-1876), berühmter Chirurg, gründete in Heidelberg eine chirurgisch-augenärztliche Klinik. "Für die Chirurgie, noch mehr aber für die Augenheilkunde, war Ch. für Südwest-Deutschland in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Ja…hrhunderts der bedeutendste Vertreter, der weit über dessen Grenzen hinaus Generationen von Schülern 47 Jahre lang gebildet und ihnen als Leiter und Rathgeber gedient hat. Er gehörte aber auch zu den bekanntesten und beliebtesten Aerzten und Chirurgen Europas, der, auch von den Fachgenossen des Auslandes hochgeschätzt, durch seine imponierende Persönlichkeit bei Patienten aller Stände und aller Nationen Sympathie und Vertrauen zu erwecken verstand." - Vorliegendes Werk, das viele Auflagen u.
