With numerous illustrations by Charles E Brock and with striking Art Nouveau boards by Albert Angus Turbayne. Condition in detail below. Looking extremely eye-catching on display. John Galt's Annals of the Parish (1821) and The Ayrshire Legatees (1823) are companion novels that humorously and insightfully depict Scottish rural life during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The first is a fictional minister's chronicle of his parish, while the second is an epistolary satire about a family's inheritance and adventures in London. Opens onto super yellow peacock decorative endpapers (also by Turbayne). Has an Ex Libris bookplate to the top corner of the front paste down. Pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Some tanning and spotting to the frontispiece tissue-guard. Shiny gilt on all sides. In striking teal cloth over boards with ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine in the Art Nouveau style. Also in very good order. Rubbing to the corner tips to reveal boards beneath. A little rubbing also to the spine ends. With a small nick in the cloth at the spine head. The teal blue on the spine has changed colour tone a little in comparison to the front and back, over the years. The gilt is beautiful and shiny bright, and this is a stunning book. H 19 cm x W 14 cm, 334 pages, 0.56 kg.
