Beiliegend: Deutsche Übersetzung des Textes (98 Seiten auf 49 losen Blättern). Giuseppe Cesari (* Februar 1568 zu Arpino; 3. Juli 1640 in Rom), genannt Il Cavaliere d'Arpino, war ein italienischer Maler. Cesari kam mit 13 Jahren nach Rom und ging hier zunächst den im Vatikan beschäftigten Malern zur Hand. Er schaute ihnen ihre Techniken ab, und es gelang ihm, auf einem Pfeiler einige Satyrn zu malen, was ihm die Unterstützung von Gregor XIII. verschaffte. Bald sah man in ihm den größten Maler Roms. Die Bestellungen häuften sich und er wurde von Clemens VIII. zum Ritter und Direktor von San Giovanni in Laterano erhoben. Der Kardinal Aldobrandini nahm ihn 1600 mit nach Frankreich, wo Heinrich IV. ihm den Orden des heiligen Michael verlieh. Auch in Neapel malte er, musste sich aber von dort vor den Anfeindungen der heimischen Künstler nach Rom flüchten. Mit dem Auftreten der Carracci und des Caravaggio schlug jedoch die römische Schule, die er beherrschte, andere Bahnen ein. Seine Haupttätigkeit in späteren Jahren bestand darum in der Anfertigung von Kartons für die Mosaiken in San Michele und in der Kuppel von St. Peter. Cesari gilt als ein überaus gewandter, mit lebhafter Phantasie begabter Künstler. Seine Arbeiten sind mit Eifer entworfen und von angenehmer Farbgebung. Detailreichtum darf man in seinen Bildern allerdings nicht suchen, besonders in den Werken seiner zweiten Periode, die zu sehr den Charakter von Improvisationen tragen. Sein Hauptwerk sind die Fresken aus der römischen Geschichte im Saal der Konservatoren auf dem Kapitol. Sprache: Italienisch Gewicht in Gramm: 5000.
