Ltd. between 1929 and 1930, bringing together practical guides on horsemanship, hunting, shooting, and fishing. Richly illustrated with colour and monochrome plates, frontispieces, and in-text images.This collection consists of:Two copies of The Way of a Man with a Horse: A Practical Book on Horsemanship by Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Broke, Veterinary notes by Colonel Todd, and a chapter on Pig-sticking by Lieutenant colonel Arthur Brooke (1929). These copies include over ninety illustrations across 27 double sided monochrome plates and two single monochrome plates, with a frontispiece. Collated, complete. Fox-Hunting (1930) by Sir Charles Frederick, Cecil Aldin, James Andrews, et al. Trout Fishing from All Angles: A Complete guide to modern methods by Eric Taverner, with a chapter on Trout scales by G. Herbert Nall, and The Legal Aspect of Fishing by Alban Bacon (1929). With two hundred and fifty illustrations, with thirty four monochrome plates including a frontispiece, sixteen of which are double sided, with two plates in colour. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, very smart. Slight damp staining across front board and front joint of spine to one of the copies of "The Way of a Man with a Horse". Previous owner"s inscription to front free endpapers, with the previous bookseller"s discreet label to front paste down, on all copies aside from one copy of "The Way of a Man With a Horse," in which the bookseller's label appears to the rear paste down. Spines slightly faded. The odd slight handling mark to boards and spines. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained in places, but holding firm. Pages bright and clean with one or two pots and handling marks, heavier to the fore edges and first and last few leaves. Very Good Indeed. Various (ilustrador). book.

Author: Edwin Way Teale was an American naturalist, photographer, and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Teales works serve as primary source material documenting environmental conditions across North America from 1930 - 1980 He is perhaps best known for his series The American Seasons, four books documenting over 75,000 miles (121,000 km) of automobile travel across North America following the changing seasons. Book Resume: The great naturalist, Edwin Way Teale, spent his boyhood holidays and summers at his grandparents' farm, Lone Oak, in Indiana In Dune Boy, first published in 1943, he recounts these buccolic visits and his budding interest in the natural world around him A loner, often bullied by other children, Teale escaped to the roof of the old house where he gazed at the golden dunes in the distance, and dreamed his own fantastic dreams The young Teale was fascinated by moths, dragonflies, snakes, and the workings of the farm He yearned to fly He tried to hitch a calf to a cart, to ride a pig He created a "museum" for his collections of arrowheads, stones, and fish skeletons Most of all, he enjoyed his storytelling, hardworking grandfather, and his book-reading, equally hardworking grandmother They revelled in and encouraged him He returned to Lone Oak every summer until he was fifteen, when the old farm house caught fire and burned down. No Binding. Condición: Near Fine. Colour printed map; overall 66 x 44 cm. folds as issued; exc. cond. This bold pictorial map was created for the Festival of Britain, a national exhibition and fair that was intended to celebrate Britain and its recovery from World War II and help the British people forget the misery of the previ…ous decade. This map is a guide to "local conversation gambits" and lists the topics of concern in various parts of Britain. The map was Cecil Walter Bacon's attempt to encourage his fellow British citizens to look toward the future and the positive momentum of the British economy. No cities are identified on the map, so one has to deduce where these topics are discussed based on geography and one's knowledge of the people in the area. The site of the Festival of Britain is shown in London, with illustrations of the Skylon and the Dome of Discovery, buildings constructed for the fair. Numerous industries are highlighted throughout the map, including factories, power stations, tourism, ship building, farming, etc. Many businesses had either ceased operations during the War or shifted to exporting their goods, and evidence of this is illustrated in the Speyside region of Scotland with the note "Whisky for Dollars," as whisky was sent abroad to reduce the balance of payments deficit. Of course more mundane topics are also presented, including the common British obsession with the weather. Designed by Cecil Walter Bacon. Prepared under the direction of Professor E.G.R. Taylor for the Festival issue of Geographical Magazine, the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society. It is interesting to note that the map was sponsored by Esso Petroleum Products, illustrating Esso's new Fawley Refinery, yet the map shows no roads. At the time, petrol was still rationed and was not even sold under brand names again until several years after this map was published. However major petrol companies were marketing their companies and trying to regain brand loyalty well in advance. Printed by Taylowe Ltd.
