While the author's study covers only the 10 years of the initial European settlement, from 1845, her opening chapter deals with the history of the Aboriginal people who lived in the area. However, that first decade is fascinating and the 10 chapters cover the first settlers, the port and other enterprises and the establishments created by those hardy folk. A fine local history, story well told. First edition of 1974, 80 pages, 23 b/w illustrations, mainly photos with some art, e/paper maps.
