Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware -Avestan is the sacred language of the Zoroastrians in which they perform most of their rituals. It is known only from its use in the rituals of modern Zoroastrians and the manuscripts reproducing these rituals since the 13th century. Although sure dates cannot be provided, it is very likely that the creation of the liturgical corpus extended from the end of the 2nd millennium BCE until the end of the Achaemenid period (4th cent. BCE). This corpus includes texts in at least three linguistic layers (Old, Middle and Young Avestan). The present manual aims to provide a tool for facilitating the teaching of Young Avestan but keeps in mind also the possibility of self-learning since Avestan is not well-represented in the actual academic landscape. It includes a progressive presentation of the complex phonetic evolutions that are very characteristic of the Avestan language as a consequence of the evolution of the recitation until its fixation (6th cent. CE) and also of the Avestan grammar, complemented with exercises including samples of original texts of increasing difficulty. In each lesson, one text is reproduced in a manuscript, introducing the students to the direct work with manuscripts. 458 pp. Englisch.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. 2 volume set. This facsimile is the second publication of the series Avestan Manuscripts in Iran (AMI), published by the Sociedad de Estudios Iranios y Turanios (SEIT). Ms. 4010 was one of the first Iranian liturgical manuscripts of the Widewdad published online by the Avestan Digital Archive. In 2012, Juanjo Ferrer-Losilla prepared and indexed the images that were provided to us by the owner, Vahid Zolfeghari. They were made at the Majma -e Zakhayer-e Islami in Qom by courtesy of Seyed Sadegh Hosseini Eshkevari. In 2018-2019, Juanjo Ferrer has adapted the published images on the Avestan Digital Archive and Jaime Martínez Porro has re-indexed the manuscript adapting it to the new numbering conventions used in the Corpus Avesticum Berolinense.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: New. 1st Edition. 35, 13, 268 , 268 pages facsimile : 31 cm. The ms. 4161 belonged to the Jahanbasi family and was purchased by the Avestan Digital Archive in 2012. Since then it is hosted in the Central Library of the Tehran University as a long-term loan. It contains the longest version of the Yasna ceremony, which consists of the Yasna with the Wisperad and Widewad intercalations together with instructions in Middle Persian for the right performance of the ritual. An exclusive feature of this manuscript is that it includes on the margin and written by a second hand the description of the contents of the Wiewdād that appear in the eighth book of the Denkard. We have chosen thios manuscript for the first volume of the series because of its importance for the Avestan textual criticism. Most of the known Avestan manuscripts produced in Iran were written by members of the learned family of Marzban Fredon or were copied from manuscripts produced within this family. Ms. 4161 does not belong to this group, although it was written only some years after the oldest preserved manuscripts of the Marzban family. It is closer to a very famous manuscript hosted in the Cama Oriental Institute, the ms. 4020 (Mf2), and other manuscripts discovered recently. But, whereas Mf2 is an Indian copy of an Iranian original sent to India, ms. 4161 is the only manuscript of this group that was still produced in Iran and is therefore not affected by the influence of the Indian environment. The book contains one English preface written in English by Katayoun Mazdapour and two introductions: one in Persian, by Katayoun Mazdapour and one in English by Alberto Cantera. In these introductions, it is dealt with different aspects of the history of the manuscript and its position among other Avestan manuscripts of the same classe. The main section of the book is the high-quality colour facsimile of the 268 folios of the manuscript with indexing in the margins.
