Brossura. Condición: new. Roma, 2023; br., pp. 120, ill., cm 17x24.(I Libri di Viella. Arte. 13). Libro.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This book questions the place of Armenian visual and material culture in the period known as Late Antiquity, at a time when Armenia is usually presented as an in-between space defined by surrounding external entities: the Roman and the Persian, and later Arab world. The volume includes artic…les that confront this notion both from the perspective of art history, architecture, and archaeology, and from a historiographical point of view, which examines the reception of Armenian arts by scholars from Italy, Russia, and France. The articles in this richly illustrated volume aim to reposition Armenia as one of the forces of artistic creation and mediation to be reckoned with within the Mediterranean and Eurasian space of Late Antiquity. This project draws on the papers presented at the conference "Re-Constructing Late Antique Armenia (2nd-8th Centuries CE). Historiography, Material Culture, Immaterial Heritage" that took place in February 2022 at the Center for Early Medieval Studies in Brno, Czech Republic. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

This two-volume set focuses on the material and visual cultures of one of the central territories in the premodern world: the Southern Caucasus, the stretch of land joining the Caspian and Black Seas, Eastern Eu…rope, and Western Asia. This transcontinental and transcultural region has been a land of fascination and awe due to its uncommon material and visual culture since the birth of art history. This unique place also inspired a darker response: covetousness, colonial and orientalist desires, and violent nationalism and conflict. These two volumes form the main result of a project co-funded by the Swiss National Research Foundation and the Czech Science Foundation. The regional complexity of the Southern Caucasus is here explored through two distinct but complementary perspectives.
