Von 1915 bis 1919 arbeitete er als Redakteur für Außenpolitik beim Berliner Tageblatt unter Theodor Wolff . Danach war er 1920/21 Dramaturg an der Volksbühne Stuttgart und ab 1921 Theaterkritiker in Hannover beim Hannoverschen Anzeiger . Danach arbeitete er ab 1923 als freier Schriftsteller in Berlin und am Steinhuder Meer . Er bezeichnete sich selbst als Vertreter der INNEREN EMIGRATION. Später Vizepräsidenten der Deutschen Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung in Darmstadt .
