"Frau Kadivec, die [.] ihr in Pflegschaft gegebene Kinder prügelte und hierbei zahlende Zuschauer hatte, wurde zu sechs Jahren schweren Kerkers verurteilt', schrieb Alfred Polgar 1924 in seinem Essay zum 'Wiener Sadistenprozeß'. Der Band ergänzt Kadivec' eigene Darstellung durch ein Dossier zu Lebenslauf, Taten, Prozeßgeschichte und Zeitreaktionen. Aus der Publikationsankündigung des Avalun-Verlags von 1931: "[.] 'Bekenntnisse und Erlebnisse' von Edith Cadivec sind der Aufschrei einer vom Schicksal gequälten Seele. Der Verlag hat die Publikation dieser Bekenntnisschrift übernommen, weil hier der einzig dastehende Fall vorliegt, daß eine Frau, die einen leidenschaftlichen Kampf gegen die von der Allgemeinheit aufgestellten Normen des sexuellen Lebens führt, durch Intelligenz, Bildung, schriftstellerische Begabung und einen vehementen Idealismus die Fähigkeit besitzt, ihr Triebleben so darzustellen, wie es sich ungehemmt auswirkt, so wie es ihrer Natur entspricht, ohne Rücksicht auf die bestehenden Sittengesetze. Edith Cadivec schildert ihre erotischen Empfindungen und Erlebnisse als Kind, Mädchen, Frau und Mutter mit einer Aufrichtigkeit und Kühnheit, wie sie in der Literatur ohne Beispiel ist". - "Frau Kadivec, die, ihrer krankhaften Neigung folgend, ihr in Pflegschaft gegebene Kinder prügelte und hierbei zahlende Zuschauer hatte, wurde zu sechs Jahren schweren Kerkers verurteilt", schrieb Alfred Polgar 1924 in seinem Essay zum sogenannten Wiener Sadistenprozeß. "Als Lehrerin gab sie den Kindern, zur Legitimierung der nachfolgenden Prügel, unlösbare Aufgaben: eine moralische Folter, die noch viel grausamer scheint als die körperlichen Mißhandlungen. [.] Es ist also in Ordnung, daß man die Frau einsperrt." Bereits im Dezember 1925 wurde ihr die restliche Strafe durch einen Gnadenakt des Bundespräsidenten erlassen; sie wurde "enthaftet", wie sie schreibt. Die Begleitumstände wie Lebenslauf, Taten, Prozeßgeschichte und Zeitreaktionen werden durch das beigegebene Dossier erhellt. Die Anklage in der Hauptverhandlung lautete auf Schändung, Verführung zur Unzucht in einem Abhängigkeitsverhältnis und auf gleichgeschlechtliche Unzucht. In der Urteilsbegründung ist zudem das sofort nach der Verhaftung abgelegte Geständnis angeführt, daß "die Kadivec sadistisch veranlagt" sei, "daß die Kadivec ihre Prügelmethoden nur den ärmeren Kindern gegenüber zur Anwendung brachte, weil sie von dieser Seite aus weniger Entdeckungen zu fürchten brauchte". Ihre Mittäter kamen noch glimpflicher als die Cadivec davon: Die Anklage gegen den Burgtheaterschauspieler Romberg wurde ebenso zurückgezogen wie gegen den ehemaligen Statthaltereisekretär Chlumecky. Degrassi und der Augenarzt Dr. Bachstez wurden freigesprochen. Der Teppichhändler Kotanyi und der Fabrikantensohn Tausig erhielten bedingte Arreststrafen. "So blieb ich für die unwissende Menge das sadistische Ungeheuer vampirischer Provenienz". 'Satansbibeln' hätte man diese Bücher früher genannt. Durch ihre Publikation aber werden sie 'öffentlich', reihen sich ein in das Genre der Bekenntnis/Selbsterkenntnis-Literatur, sind Dokument einer Verirrung: Exhibitionistisch, mit Lust an der Selbstanklage, schonungslos und geradezu aggressiv in ihrer Offenheit. - Ein Leben, getrieben von überbordender Sexualität und rauschhaftem Erleben praktizierter Gewalt.
