Light rubbing and bumping at the top and bottom of the spine and the corners. Browning to the page edges with spotting to the fore edges. Small name written neatly in ink at the top of the front free endpaper. Pages have a few light spots but are generally clean and unmarked. Coloured frontispiece and a number of smaller black and white illustrations by W. Lindsay Cable. The jacket is quite badly torn around the edges with one-and-a-half inch piece missing at the bottom of the spine. The front panel has a three inch closed tear at the top left corner and a two inch closed tear at the top right corner. The rear panel has a ragged three inch closed tear at the bottom left corner and a two inch closed tear at the top right corner. Chipping with some loss at the corners. Presumed to be the first printing.
