Faxon, M.A.:"The original 1947 master plan for Los Angeles created by Burnett Turner created an east-west axis civic center plan connected by parks, plazas, and buildings, stretching from the 1928 Los Angeles City Hall up to the top of Bunker Hill, where a large neighborhood was eventually completely leveled of its Victorian buildings in order to accommodate this redevelopment.".Here is a biographical information on this celebrated designer from:Princeton Alumni Weekly:Burnett Coburn Turner '25 *26.Published in the Dec. 4, 2013, Issue."Sandy Turner was born in Los Angeles on Dec. 3, 1902. After Los Angeles H.S. and a year at the U. of Southern California, he transferred to us in Sept. 1921.He won the Freshman English prize for Engineers and was on the water polo and soccer squads and the Life Saving Club. Sandy was president of the engineering club, and he was a member of Quadrangle. He majored in engineering, obtained a CE in 1926, and earned a degree in architecture from MIT in 1928.Sandy commenced a career in NYC, but transferred to Los Angeles. He became assistant director of the Federal Works Agency and served in the Engineer Corps during WWII. He then entered a successful career as an architect and planner. A director of the Turner Oil Co., he also maintained a residence in Tahoe City.He died on Mar. 29, 1997, in his beloved home in Amesbury. [Actually this refers to the address of his famous house , the Mid-Century Modern Masterpiece in Los Feliz - 3756 Amesbury Road]. He was buried in Rosemont Cemetery after a private ceremony. He was predeceased by his wife, Miriam Fechimer, and their son, Thomas. The Class of 1925".Burnett Turner also served as the principal architect for El Pueblo in Los Angeles for more than thirty years and he was instrumental in transforming many of the historic buildings into the impressive and popular monuments we see today.
