Añadir al carritoTrade Paperback. Condición: New. The respected New York painter Kathe Burkhart is best known internationally for her 'Liz Taylor Series,' a Feminist conceptual project that is more a highly performative serial work than a simple body of paintings and drawings devoted to this iconic and perpetually complicated Hollywood muse. In Burkhart's work, Taylor's multiple personae--actress, vixen, Hollywood royalty, serial wife and divorcee, party girl, charitable humanitarian, entrepreneur, rebel, dominant woman--together form a media-based mirror of contemporary female identity. Derived from tabloid and paparazzi shots, film stills and publicity photos and often emblazoned with highly charged expressions of profanity, the paintings portray the actress as a two-dimensional doppelganger for the artist herself--caught in the act of reclaiming female sexuality and power. This comprehensive volume, arranged in chronological order, presents Burkhart's series-in-progress at its 25-year mark. Consistently intense and obsessively focused, it is a relentlessly powerful experience.

Añadir al carrito100 pp.; 18.5 x 12.2 cm.; glue bound; black-and-white; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed; "The Double Standard is an anticlimactic illustrated novella somewhere between fiction and creative nonfiction. The style is experimental and deadpan, with equal parts humor, pathos, and rage. A fair amount of sex and drugs are involved, with downtown New York City as a backdrop--but it''s more discursive than erotic. Written in a parallel construction, two voices overlap and personal history conspires to repeat itself, déjà vu-style: a West Virginia teenage hippie chick in the ''70s (sourced from Burkhart''s actual diaries) and a thirty-something artist in the ''80s, who leaves her junkie boyfriend after having an affair at an art colony. This is, however, merely set and setting for the real subject of the book, a self-reflexive analysis of the repetition compulsion." -- publisher''s statement. Very Good / Fine. Very light rubbing of edges of cover.
