Balthasar Johannes de Buchwald (1697-, "wurde 1697 in Kopenhagen gehören, starb 1763. 1715 Student, 1720 Dr. medic., studirte dann noch zwei Jahre im Auslande und suchte sich hier be…sonders als Geburtshelfer auszubilden. Nach seiner Heimkehr prakticirte er zuerst in Kopenhagen, dann von 1725 -1739 als Landpbysicus auf Laaland, bis er im letztgenannten Jahre durch Concurrenz eine Professur der Medicin an der Universität in Kopenhagen erlangte. Er wurde dreimal Rector der Universität und 1760 erhielt er den Titel eines Etatsraths. Er erwarb sich Verdienste um die Entwicklung der Hebammenkunst in Dänemark und durch die Stiftung eines Stipendiums. Die Urtheile über seine Gelehrsamkeit und Lehrerthätigkcit waren nicht unbedingt günstig. Ein Verzeichnis seiner Schriftcn ist von INGERSLEV'S Danmarks Läger II, pag. 296 angeführt. Nicht zu verwechseln ist er mit seinem jüngeren Bruder Friedrich de Balthasarü, welcher 1706 geboren, 1752 starb und ebenfalls, besonders als Geburtshelfer gerühmt wird, wie auch die bei INGEBSDEV 1. c. pag. 323 verzeichneten Schriften über anatomische und physiologische Studien wegen ihres Scharfsinnes und ihrer Gelehrsamkeit gelobt werden."
