The region was one of Stalin's favourite holiday destinations and there was a concerted effort to cultivate goods traditionally grown elsewhere such as tea, mandarins and bamboo. 18 x 13.5cm. Two paperbacks, 13[+1]pp & 15[+1]pp. Published 1927 and 1928 respectively. The cover of volume one reproduces a Vladimir Tatlin artwork, and a Lev Aleksandrovich Bruni work appears on volume two. A series of these booklets were planned reviewing the progress of Cubism and Futurism, but only these two volumes were published. Volume one is tanned towards the spine area, but internally very good. Volume two has extensive marginal ink lines, highlighting certain passages, and small strip along the top of the title page has been excised. Punin was an art writer who championed modern Russian movements such as Constructivism and Formalism, and also had interests in the preservation of art collections. In Soviet Russia he attracted criticism for lecturing on Western art. A rare set. [stockref: 089]£500.…
