A posthumous collection published three years after Brodey's passing and assembled by Coolidge. Coolidge's introduction describes the manuscript's history; he writes that by the early 1980s, Brodey "had begun work on a large collection of poems which he continued to adjust for the rest of his life. The latest version he left with Bill Berkson in Bolinas, California in November of 1991.From the four versions of this manuscript available to me I have tried to assemble a collection that adheres to Jim's plans as closely as another's take on his work allows, selecting poems from these years that show the force and range of his later work. The section titles are all his, excepting There and Back which I have chosen to stand before works from what is most likely his last notebook."
