Both hardcover, H 32.75cm x L 25.75cm, bound in original slender well scuffed black leather spines and rubbed dark brown cloth boards; board corners worn. Red ink stamps for New York music importer C. Breusing scattered amongst bottom margins of various leaves of both books. Breusing operated in New York from 1844 to 1864 (but usually with a dual imprint of partner Kerksieg) so both book should date from that period. Sheets in each book have distinct plate impressions. Both acquired from the same antebellum Columbus, Mississippi estate. BOOK #1. Gilt stamped spine title as OPERA FRIEND 1-10 FLUTE but with no formal title page provided. 38 pages total (but with each arrangement separately paged). Front board slightly bowed and has several small patches of surface chips to cloth at top left corner. Some splitting at heads and heels of front and rear hinges but binding remains firm; mostly light but occasionally mild foxing to leaves. A good copy. Single-sided logo sheet for Nashville, Tennessee Brandon Printing Company laid-in but with long trimming to top half of right edge.
