After the Boston Globe had changed the "Women" section to "Living," the activists argued, that section mainly focused on "house plants, cooking, fashion," etc., and most writers were men. They made three demands: a minimum of 500 words per week of women's news edited by Bread and Roses, an end to sexist and racist advertising, including ads using women's sexuality to sell products; and an end to gender-segregated job classifieds.
