Gutes Ex.; Einband gering berieben. - Seit der Gefangennahme Adolf Eichmanns im Mai i960 sind unserem Verlag eine Reihe von Manuskripten zum "Fall Eichmann" zugegangen. In allen Fällen verwiesen wir die Autoren an andere Verlage, aus dem Gefühl: "tua res agitur…." Nach der Veröffentlichung des sogenannten "Geständnis" von Eichmann in den Zeitschriften "Life" und "Revue" ändert sich unsere Haltung. Seine autobiographischen Aufzeichnungen, die vorgeben, die historischen Tatsachen darzustellen, sind dazu angetan, uninformierte Leser zu verwirren und den wahren Sachverhalt zu verschleiern. Deshalb suchten wir einen sachkundigen Autor, der die Fakten von den Fabeln zu trennen vermochte und darüber hinaus Eichmanns Darstellung aus persönlicher Kenntnis des Mannes und aus Vertrautheit mit dem reichen Dokumentenmaterial widerlegen konnte. Seit seinen erfolglosen Verhandlungen mit Eichmann in Ungarn im Jahr 1944 hat Joel Brand (dessen Erlebnisse erstmalig gemeinsam von ihm und Alex Weissberg in dem Buch "Die Geschichte von Joel Brand", Köln 1956, dargestellt wurde) es sich zur Aufgabe gesetzt, das "Leben und Werk" Eichmanns in allen Einzelheiten zu ergründen. Davon legt auch Joel und Hanni Brands Buch "Der Satan und die Seele" (Ledory, Tel Aviv i960) Zeugnis ab. Das vorliegende Buch ist mehr als ein auf Dokumente gestützter Tatsachenbericht.
