Colour photographs throughout, colour paintings by Rodger McPhail. Black boards, spine and upper board titled in gilt. Fine new copy in dust-wrapper. This book arose out of the expedition to film the series A Passion for Angling, first shown in 1993. "The trouble is, the continuing enthusiasm of A Passion for Angling finally got to me and I started to think about embarking on the same crazy journey once again. But how could we make a new series different - and perhaps even better?" Filming the new series was as much an adventure as filming the first series had been. This is the story of that adventure, and it is just that - the story of an angling expedition. You come away thinking that the series rather took second place to the expedition itself, and this book is far more than just a spin-off from the series. The book of the expedition, not the book of the series. Well worth a read. PREVIOUS PRICE GBP 24.95.

TO SHERIFFS, CONSTABLES, POLICE & RAILROAD OFFICERS. At 1:35 A.M. today, O.S.L. train No. 1 was held up by three masked men about three miles north of Ogden, who relieved a number of passengers and employees of money and jewelry and made their escape, the amount of money, as near as can be figured, aggregating $350.00, there being 9 watches, one wedding ring and a pair of ear-rings a-mong the jewelry. Two of the men weighed about 160 pounds, the third one a little heavier; one had a black slouch hat, with greasy band, and another had a brown hat. Description of watches taken as follows: Conductor H.O. Williams: 21 jewel, old open case, gold filled, movement Elgin 9670996. Brakeman H.F. Franklin: 21 jewel 940, Hamilton movement No. 254909 Fireman J.W. Hill: Illinois Watch Co., Bund special old open case No. 6803766. A.J. Bettles, passenger: 15 jewel open case, 18 size, Elgin movement, No. 12244344. Revolver taken from Baggageman Reed, in Colts', in six shoot-er, No. 44911 Arrest party found in possession of the above named jewelry or weapon and notify Joseph Jones, Special Agent Oregon Short Line Salt Lake City, or the undersigned. Yours truly, M.T. BOWLER [Miles Tobey Bowler, 1856-1927], Chief Special Agent S.P. Co. [Southern Pacific Company]." From the New York Times, June 28, 1910: Three masked bandits held up the second section of Oregon Short Line train No. 1, northbound, which left Ogden at 1:30 o'clock this morning, at Second Street, in the northern part of this city. All the passengers in the train were relieved of their valuables, and the express messenger was compelled to deliver the contents of the safe. The exact amount the robbers obtained has not been reported. Two passengers and two trainmen were injured. The robbers stopped the train by placing railroad torpedoes on the track. When the engineer brought the train to a stop the head brakeman went forward to ascertain the cause of the delay, and was struck with a revolver by one of the robbers. He was then taken, at the point of a pistol, to the express car, and compelled to call to the messenger to open the door. As soon as the door was opened one of the bandits crawled in and commanded the messenger to open the safe. After rifling the safe the robbers turned their attention to the coaches. As they started for the coaches N.B. Franklin, rear brakeman, was met as the was on his way forward. The bandits commanded him to halt, but he disregarded the order, and two shots were fired at him. He then stopped, and one of the bandits knocked him down. Franklin rolled into a ditch, where he feigned unconsciousness. After seeing that he was not watched, he got up and ran three blocks to the home of Deputy Sheriff John Hutchens, whom he aroused and informed of the robbery. The Deputy Sheriff hurried to the scene, arriving just as the train pulled out. The train robbers went through each coach with a deliberation and calmness that showed they were not novices at the game. When H.L. Williams, a conductor, left the train he was stopped by one of the robbers, and ordered back into a coach. While one of the desperadoes stood guard over Engineer Kirkwood, the other two, with drawn revolvers, went through the train, ordering each passenger to hand over his valuables. Mrs. J. H. Ball's diamond earrings were torn from her ears. A foreigner, whose name was not learned, was assaulted by the robbers. He did not understand what was going on, and was beaten with the butt of a revolver. After the train had been robbed the bandits fired their pistols to terrorize the passengers. Then they got into a buggy, in which they had driven to the spot, and hurried away . . . Sheriff Wilson gathered a small posse and started in pursuit . . . Two are under arrest. Very good.
