A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Algernon Borthwick, with the caption ''The Morning Post". Accompanied by a one page biographical sheet. Sir Algernon Borthwick, 1st Baron Glenesk (27 December 1830 - 24 November 1908) was a conservative British journalist, and later the owner of the Morning Post (which merged with The Daily Telegraph in 1937).

He concludes by explaining that he and his wife have 'given our present long ago & I am subscribing to a Kensington one. We cannot subscribe to all.'.

First issue was said to have been purposely numbered #1000 This publication seems comprised of parliamentary commentary, long barely attributed poems, general gossip, satire, double acrostics, advertisements,biting humor *usually at someone else's expense). and general Snooty Omniscience, Wikipedia's compendium of information states: "a satirical society newspaper published in London from 1864 to 1870. Irregularly published, but sometimes fortnightly, it cost 6d., was Tory in politics and consisted of a mix of satire and London society gossip. The Owl was founded by Morning Post editor Algernon Borthwick, together with Evelyn Ashley, Lord Wharncliffe (1827-99) and James Archibald Stuart-Wortley.[The Conservative MP Alexander Baillie-Cochrane, 1st Baron Lamington was joint editor of the paper from 1864 to 1868. Contributors included the architect Arthur Ashpitel (1807-69), Disraeli's private secretary Montagu Corry, Laurence Oliphant, and Henry Drummond Wolff.[2] They also included Mortimer Collins, Lord Houghton, Ralph Bernal Osborne, George Otto Trevelyan, and Thomas Gibson Bowles."
