Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a meticulous study of Bishop Konrad of Querfurt, a fascinating historical figure whose life was intertwined with the tumultuous events of the late 12th and early 13th century Holy Roman Empire. The author delves into chronicles and primary sources to unravel the complexities surrounding Konrad's origins, ecclesiastical career, and political allegiances. The author challenges previous assumptions about Konrad's lineage, revealing him as a member of the Querfurt family rather than the House of Ravensburg. This discovery enhances our understanding of his familial connections and the influence they had on his life. By meticulously examining Konrad's role as both Chancellor to Emperor Henry VI and Bishop of Würzburg, the book illustrates his remarkable political acumen. His diplomatic missions and involvement in imperial affairs shed light on the intricate web of alliances and conflicts that shaped the era. Furthermore, the author explores the tensions between Konrad's loyalty to the Hohenstaufen dynasty and the demands of the papacy. Through analysis of papal documents and correspondence, the book illuminates the complex relationship between church and state during a period of intense struggle for power. The author also examines the accusations of treason and conspiracy that have followed Konrad's reputation, providing a balanced and nuanced assessment of his actions. This book is an invaluable contribution to medieval history, offering fresh insights into the life and times of Bishop Konrad of Querfurt. It is a must-read for scholars and enthusiasts seeking to delve deeper into the intricacies of this fascinating period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
