Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - How are consumers determining whether spatial data issuitable for them Today, the Internet providesaccess to plenty of mapping data of varying quality. To date, literature and industry conventions haveboth assumed that finding data which is fit for agiven purpose, predominantly involves readingstandardized data about the data (or metadata ). Metadata has to be written by the data provider andrelentlessly updated as the data changes. Thisapproach presumably made sense in 1983, before theInternet and Google were household terms, but whereis the empirical evidence of potential consumersusing metadata today This thesis exploresconsumers experiences and argues that, for thetypical spatial data consumer, data quality metadataplays virtually no role in determining whether adataset is suitable or good enough for their use. Instead, their goals are to (1) try to find anunderstandable description of the data content andthen (2) use the dataset to form their own opinion ofits reliability. Therefore, to communicate fitnessfor use, data providers need to focus on includingquality as part of the data description or implicitlyportray quality as part of data use.…
