His historical account of Ethiopia, composed in Portuguese during the last decade of his life, exists in only two surviving manuscripts. The translation is undertaken by Christopher J. Tribe and is based on a new critical edition of the original Portuguese text, which was edited by Isabel Boavida, Hervé Pennec, and Manuel Joao Ramos, and published in Lisbon in 2008.The *History of Ethiopia* serves as a crucial resource across multiple fields of study.
