BOAC was the British state-owned airline created in 1939 by the merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd. It continued operating overseas services throughout World War II. In 1952, BOAC became the first airline to introduce a jet aircraft, flying the de Havilland Comet from London to Tokyo and Johannesburg, stopping in Nairobi, Kenya.
