Some, like Hungarian, Livonian and the southern and northern Saami languages, have had relatively little or no contact; others, like the eastern Finnic, Volgaic and Permic languages, have undergone strong Russian influence for many centuries. For most of the Uralic languages there are also monographs or longer articles dealing with the Russian loanwords of the literary or spoken language. Estonian, however, which has been in direct contact with East Slavic and Russian for over a thousand years, and had been part of the Soviet Union for some 50 years, has no such monograph a fact, which has been repeatedly bemoaned in the literature. The present work aims to fill this void for literary Estonian. ISBN 9783447057394 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1068 Fadengehefteter Originalpappband.

This book is the first comprehensive treatment of the Russian loanwords in literary Estonian, a language belonging to the Finnic branch of the Uralic language family and spoken by approximately 1 million people. Estonian has been in contact with East Slavic and Russian since approximately AD 700, and has been under strong Russian infl uence for long periods between 1721 and 1991. For historical reasons, however, the infl uence of Russian on Estonian has either been exaggerated or understated, and this volume, which contains a brief history of Estonian-Russian historical and linguistic contact, an overview of previous studies on the subject, a detailed etymological treatment of some 1000 Russian loanwords excerpted from all existing lexicographic sources of Estonian, and a phonological, morphological, semantic and statistic loanword analysis, also attempts to place the linguistic contacts between these two peoples in a correct perspective. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The volume summarizes research on the structural convergence and divergence of languages in the eastern part of the Circum-Baltic Area by providing its profile against a genealogical and typological background. Methodological issues needed to assess factors that condition convergence in contact superposition zones, or that otherwise lead to differentiation among related varieties, are discussed. Against this backdrop synthetic surveys of major and minor Finnic languages are provided, followed by corpus-based case studies on morphosyntactic phenomena. The volume thus presents both a synthetic compendium and a series of specific up-to-date studies, with special attention to micro-variation.
