Scarce US GPO edition which states "First edition, January 1923" on copyright page. This is one of those copies, which is actually second to the Canadian. [The Bureau of Mines (USBM) was founded May 16, 1910 through the Organic Act (Public Law 179) to address the "wave of catastrophic mine disasters". Congress voted to close USBM in September 1995 (complete by March 1996) transferring functions to about five other agencies]. The Canadian copy is Very Good, Ex-lib (John Crerar Library, Chicago) with bookplate & withdrawn stamp front pastedown and 3 perforated stamps.
