Reverend Blake was a prolific writer with intersts in American history (and Indians), astronomy, oceanography, school readers, earth science, chemistry, anthropology/sociology, farming, natural philosophy, biography and geography as well as religion. He was also founder of the Ladies' Magazine (edited by Sarah Josepha Hale 1827-36). American Imprints 2390 [later reprinted in 2012].…

Staying with the small, vintage hardcover books, here s another: The Wonders of the Earth; Containing an Account of its Remarkable Features and Phenomena; to wit, Minerals, Mountains, Caverns Earthquakes Volcanoes, Storms, Whirlwinds and Other Miscellaneous Matter by the Rev. J.L. Blake. This small hardcover book (4 x 6 ? inches, 252 pages) was designed for the instruction of young persons and published by Mills, Crandall & Moseley of Cazenovia, New York dated 1849. The book is bound in nice smooth calfskin boards with a black & gilt title panel on the spine. As it may be recalled, Cazenovia, New York was the home of the recently closed Cazenovia College. Please see the photos of the Table of Contents for your further information. Surprisingly, the book is without any illustrations. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The calf boards are in very good shape with some minor bumping to the corners and spine tips and a bit of wear to the title label on the spine. Inside the book is unmarked and the interior pages are bright and without toning or foxing although they do exhibit random and common instances of smudges and specks of soiling, none of it extreme. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
