Bishop commanded Fort Smith, Arkansas, after the was re-taken by Union forces. he was with the 2d Wisconsin Cavalry. Double Presentation Copy: inscribed by The Author to W. H. Frazier, at Little Rock, Ark., in 186?, in pencil, and to E. F. Bishop, with regards, by ??? [ Note: Bishop had a brother, but I have not identified his name]. The latest date in the text is April 19, 1863, after the Battle of Fayetteville. It ends with the Arkansian Battle Hymn of April, 1863, and notes on the war in Missouri in July, 1863 . In the postwar era, Bishop became the president of the Arkansas Industrial University, and ran unsuccessfully for Governor. [ Howes B474; Nevins, II: p. 182].
