Bieber (1894-1981) was editor of The Southwest Historical Series, a 12-volume series of historical documents depicting social and economic conditions in the Southwest during the nineteenth century. First edition Volume III, containing Mexican-American War journals written by George Rutledge Gibson, an American soldier from Mattoon, Illinois who served under General Stephen Kearny and Colonel Alexander William Doniphan.
