Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of funeral orations given by humanist orators in honor of the Grand Duke Cosimo I de Medici of Florence. The orations, while presenting a historical account of the Duke's reign, also present an overview of humanist thought and ideals of the time period. The author emphasizes the importance of humanist values such as education, civic duty, and the importance of classical learning, as well as the importance of the Medici family's rule in fostering and encouraging these values. The book provides a valuable window into the intellectual and cultural life of Renaissance Florence and the humanist movement, while also offering a glimpse into the life and times of one of the most important figures of the period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
