Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of farcical ideas written by a self-proclaimed "modern doctor," a relative of the famous Bruscambille, a notable farceur of the HÃ tel de Bourgogne theater in 17th century France. The book consists largely of two prologues on the topics of "Ideas of the Time" and "Good Appearances of This Era," as well as a genealogy of the author and Bruscambille. Though the book is rife with obscure references to classical authors and relies on puns and other wordplay that is difficult to appreciate in modern French, the author's intent to satirize the social mores of his day is clear. The book is significant for being one of the few surviving examples of the farcical prologues performed by farceurs of the era, offering a glimpse into popular entertainment of the time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
