Features contributions by Alexander Troochi, Bertolt Brecht, Anthony Kay, Dina Athill, Louis Ginsberg, John Logan and others. Also includes Lawrence Ferlinghetti's "He," Edward Albee's "The Zoo Story," LeRoi Jones' "The Bridge," and Frank Conroy's "Spring for Alison." The highlight of this issue though is a long essay by Albert Camus on capital punishment. A close to near fine copy in wrappers illustrated with a Larry Rivers cover and with some very minor wear.

The first issue of this literary, 'little' magazine, featuring 'Criticism West of Suez,' by John Berger; 'The Anachronistic Procession of Freedom and Democray,' by Bertolt Brecht; 'The Negroes Sing,' a poem by Andrei Voznesensky; 'The Propertyless Workingmen's Association,' a political essay by Franz Kafka; and a poem 'The Young Mod,' by Gerard Malanga, among work by other authors. This first issue reflects a slightly subversive, experimental tone in writing and subject matter, with pieces reflecting on left wing politics, as well as (indirectly) the Civil Rights movement. GOOD+ condition. Uneven fading, minor scufffing and soiling to the covers. Some scuffing and curling along the extremities, with a bump to the lower front cover. Interior clean and solid.

TNP was founded in Paris in 1920 by Firmin Gémier as a theatre for the masses. This issue focuses on the Brecht play which was being performed that year and invites comparisons to the Fascists of WWII. Also coverage of the music programs that season with an article on Pia Colombo performing Brecht-Weill tunes. One holding located in OCLC as of 8/2022.
