Randfehlstellen, ansonsten noch guter Erhaltungszustand (3++). Fritz Haber (* 9. Dezember 1868 in Breslau; ? 29. Januar 1934 in Basel) war ein deutscher Chemiker und Nobelpreisträger für Chemie. Er leitete als Gründungsdirektor 22 Jahre lang das Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Physikalische Chemie und Elektrochemie in Berlin, das heute nach ihm benannt ist. Sein wissenschaftliches Werk umfasst Beiträge zur Thermochemie, der Organischen Chemie, der Elektrochemie und der Technischen Chemie. Zusammen mit Max Born entwickelte Haber den Born-Haber-Kreisprozess zur quantitativen Ermittlung der Gitterenergie in Kristallen. Im Jahr 1919 wurde er mit dem Nobelpreis für Chemie des Jahres 1918 ?für die katalytische Synthese von Ammoniak aus dessen Elementen Stickstoff und Wasserstoff? ausgezeichnet. Ammoniak dient zusammen mit Salpetersäure zur Herstellung von Düngemitteln und Sprengstoff. Das von Fritz Haber und Carl Bosch entwickelte Haber-Bosch-Verfahren zur Ammoniaksynthese ermöglichte die Massenproduktion von Stickstoffdünger und sichert heute die Ernährung eines großen Teils der Weltbevölkerung. Habers Versuche mit Phosgen und Chlorgas kurz nach dem Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs machten ihn zum ?Vater des Gaskriegs? Unter seiner Leitung wurden die deutschen Gastruppen formiert und später erstmals Giftgas als Massenvernichtungswaffe eingesetzt. Später erforschte er die Möglichkeiten zur Gewinnung von Gold aus Meerwasser, um die deutschen Reparationszahlungen nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg zu finanzieren. Nach der Machtübernahme der Nationalsozialisten emigrierte Fritz Haber 1933 nach England. Wenige Monate später starb er in einem Hotel in Basel. Das Journal Chemische Berichte wurde im 19. Jahrhundert als Berichte der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellschaft gegründet und war weltweit eine der bedeutendsten wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften auf dem Gebiet der Chemie. 1868 wurde die Zeitschrift von der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellschaft zu Berlin anfangs als Sammlung von Tagungsprotokollen herausgegeben. Zu den Ehrenmitgliedern gehörten ?die Herren Liebig, Wöhler und Bunsen? Liebig war bereits seit 1832 Herausgeber der konkurrierenden Annalen der Chemie und Pharmacie. Schon im ersten Jahr füllten viele Abdrucke der Fachvorträge den ersten Jahrgangsband der Chemischen Berichte. Nachdem die Zeitschrift von 1919 bis 1945 in zwei Reihen verlegt worden war (A für Vereinsnachrichten und B für Abhandlungen), erschien sie ab 1947 als Gesamtausgabe unter dem Namen Chemische Berichte. Der Schwerpunkt lag traditionell auf dem Gebiet der Organischen Chemie, nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg zunehmend ergänzt um das Gebiet der Metallorganischen Chemie, einem Spezialbereich der Anorganischen Chemie.
