As new condition textured white boards with green spine lettering contained in an as new condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Author's Note; Acknowledgments; Appendix: Our Top Ten Lists; and About the Author. Signed by the author (with a few general sentiments) with thin purple ink at the upper left section of the blank first free front endpaper. Also includes a neatly written gift inscription at the lower section of the same blank first free front endpaper. "Can a happily married American couple successfully abandon the corporate rat race - along with its handsome salaries and benefits packages - to open a perfumery and create their own custom lines of frangrances in the French Caribbean? That was John Berglund's vision, and A Beach Less Traveled is the remarkable story of how he made it happen. What originated in a family trip to the beach eventually became an unlikely but thriving business based on Berglund's lifelong fascination with perfume. Though he chose a career in law, his passion lay in the chemistry sets of his youth. Berglund eventually built a full-fledged lab in his basement in Atlanta, where he spent countless hours of free time experimenting with new concoctions. When he had the dream of opening a perfumery in a tranquil island paradise, he set out to make it happen - no matter what. Berglund's account of his Caribbean adventure is a fun-filled factual tale of conflicts, contrasts, and celebration. As he and his wife embed themselves in an eccentric community on the island of Saint Martin, they learn incredible lessons about business, success, and themselves. Their story may just inspire you to follow in their footsteps and ditch the business casual attire for a pair of shorts and flip-flops." - from the inner front jacket flap. Signed by Author(s).

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Mid-century classroom text in plane trigonometry, this 1950 Houghton Mifflin copy is offered together with an unusually complete bundle of United States Military Academy, West Point-issued and cadet-produced ephemera documenting active academy use in the 1950s. The volume itself contains the full instructional apparatus (clear worked examples, diagrams, tables and problems) and is solidly bound in cloth with gilt titles. The package includes a typeset Math Department supplement bearing the imprint (Math. Dept., USMA, August 1955), Army/USMA exercises, a cadet financial/account ledger (USMA AG form with entries stamped PLOGER WAYNE D K1 MAR 57), base newspaper-subscription logs and multiple sheets of personal handwritten course notes and diagrammatic problem sketches. The typed USMA supplement explicitly replaces and re-orders pages and is stamped ARMY-USMA (service format), demonstrating institutional adoption of the text for cadet instruction. Boards square, binding tight; moderate rubbing and light scuffing to cloth at spine ends and covers, gilt remains legible. Light age-toning to endpapers; printed owner stamp 'PLOGER, W. D.' on front pastedown. Occasional small marginal smudges and corner creases; no loose signatures, no institutional perforation other than owner stamp. Laid-in ephemera - Good to Fair. Army/USMA typescript supplement (Math Dept., USMA, August 1955) is folded and has small edge tears from handling but is complete and entirely legible; USMA financial/account form (dated MAR 1957) shows typical folds, handling soil and punch/staple holes; subscription logs and personal notes/diagrams are folded, creased, and in typed/pencil medium with expected wear. All inserts are sold with the book and have been photographed. Copyright page states Copyright, 1950 (Corliss & Berglund) and printing credit to The Riverside Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts. No numbered printing line is present. Given the 1950 copyright, the Riverside Press printing, and Houghton Mifflin imprint, this is a 1950 Houghton Mifflin classroom issue (likely first edition/first printing.) Wayne D. Ploger was a U.S. Military Academy graduate from the West Point class of 1961 who went on to serve a 19-year career as an Army artillery officer before transitioning into management consulting. After earning an M.S. in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, he joined Arthur Young & Company, later Ernst & Young, where he contributed to several U.S. Army Research Institute studies in the early 1980s focused on personnel systems, leadership, and organizational effectiveness. His consulting career continued for two decades, including work through his own firm, Wayne Ploger & Associates, before he later shifted into maritime work and earned a Coast Guard master's license.
