Juli 1919 in Mühlhausen, Landkreis Heidelberg, Baden; 28. Mai 2015 in Köln) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller und Herausgeber. Leben und Werk: Nach der Rü…ckkehr aus Krieg und Gefangenschaft in der Sowjetunion begann Hans Bender seinen literarischen Weg mit dem Verfassen von Gedichten und Kurzgeschichten (die sich u. a. mit den Erfahrungen des Kriegs auseinandersetzen) sowie der Herausgabe der Literaturzeitschrift Konturen. 1954 gründete er mit Walter Höllerer die Zeitschrift Akzente, die schnell zu einer der bedeutendsten Literaturzeitschriften im deutschen Sprachraum wurde. Er war Redakteur des Feuilleton der Zeitschrift magnum und des Feuilleton der Deutschen Zeitung.[1] Neben Prosaanthologien hat Bender vor allem repräsentative Lyrik-Sammelbände herausgegeben, deren dokumentarischer Charakter sie zu unverzichtbaren Nachschlagewerken für den Lyrikleser machen. Als Autor prägte Hans Bender in erster Linie die deutschsprachige Kurzgeschichte nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entscheidend mit. Die Wölfe kommen zurück, Der Brotholer, Iljas Tauben gehören bis heute zum literarischen Kanon im deutschen Schulbuch und sind in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt. 1957 erhielt Bender den Kurzgeschichtenpreis der Süddeutschen Zeitung. Weitere Ehrungen für sein literarisches Fördern, Schaffen und Wirken folgten. Im Jahr 2006 erhielt Hans Bender die Christian Ferber-Ehrengabe der Deutschen Schillerstiftung. Hans Bender war Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur Mainz, der Freien Akademie der Künste Mannheim sowie der Akademie der Künste Berlin, Sektion Literatur. Weniger bekannt ist der Lyriker Hans Bender. Im Alter waren es in erster Linie die Vierzeiler, in denen Bender (wie in den Aufzeichnungen) die Fähigkeit unter Beweis stellte, (selbst-)ironisch, lakonisch und pointiert zugleich einprägsame Bilder, Gedanken und Situationen in wenigen Zeilen zur Geltung zu bringen. Die ausgewählten Werke erscheinen seit 2002 im Rimbaud Verlag. Hans Bender hat den Frankfurter Appell unterzeichnet, der die Wiederherstellung der einheitlichen und bewährten Orthographie fordert. Bender gehörte mit bedeutenden Briefkonvoluten zu den Leihgebern des 2009 versunkenen Historischen Archivs der Stadt Köln (Womöglich der größte literarische Verlust des Einsturzes, FAZ 29. Juni 2009). Die in diesen Konvoluten enthaltenen Briefe von und an Elias Canetti sind durch einen Abdruck in der Zeitschrift Sinn und Form überliefert. Der Schriftsteller lebte und arbeitete seit 1959 in Köln. Er starb am 28. Mai 2015.[2] Er wurde in einem Ehrengrab in seiner Heimatgemeinde Mülhausen beigesetzt.[3] Rezeption: Im Lexikon der Weltliteratur wird Bender charakterisiert als unpathetischer Lyriker und zuchtvoll verhaltener Erzähler einer mit knappsten Mitteln arbeitenden, subtilen Prosa von klarer Ehrlichkeit und verschwiegener Herzlichkeit.[4] .
