Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. 1st Edition. Coronado's Children: Tales Of Lost Mines And Buried Treasures Of The Southwest by J. Frank Dobie ; cloth hardcover in dustjacket, illustrated by Ben Carlton Mead; Published by The Literary Guild of America, New York, 1931. Written in 1930, Coronado's… Children was one of J. Frank Dobie's first books, and the one that helped gain him national prominence as a folklorist. In it, he recounts the tales and legends of those hardy souls who searched for buried treasure in the Southwest following in the footsteps of that earlier gold seeker, the Spaniard Coronado. "These people," Dobie writes in his introduction, "no matter what language they speak, are truly Coronado's inheritors. l have called them Coronado's Children. They follow Spanish trails, buffalo trails, cow trails, they dig where there are no trails; but oftener than they dig or prospect they just sit and tell stories of lost mines, of buried bullion by the jack load. " This is the tale-spinning Dobie at his best. "jacket wear, tear, marks, bookplate residue inside, otherwise is very good, clean and tight". Ben Carlton Mead (ilustrador).

Very Good dust jacket, a mylar dust jacket has been added, picturing man in desert with donkey, advertising on the rear cover price-clipped. The Very Good+ binding is red cloth over boards, gilt stamping on the spine. The binding is tight and pa…ges are clean. Black-and-white illustrations by Ben Carlton Mead. About the book: (From the dust jacket) LOST MINES of the OLD WEST: CORONADO's CHILDREN J. FRANK DOBIE: More thrilling than any fictitious adventure tale is this true story of those who, for four centuries, have sought treasure in the fabulous lost mines of the South-west of America. Told with vigor, gusto and authority, it is a fascinating saga of the lengths to which man will go in his search for gold. This fascinating cavalcade of the South-west, from the time of Coronado down to today, presents a thousand exciting incidents in which pirates, outlaws, cowboys, rangers, miners, preachers, doctors, farmers, and gold-thirsty women, all play their parts. Generations of men have disemboweled mountains, drained lakes and turned rivers out of their courses; countless lives have been lost and unbelievable hardships endured-all in search of gold. In this book they pass before the reader in thrilling procession-gold-hungry adventurers, hoping, believing, striving, fighting-the mad horde of Coronado's children. Mead, Ben Carlton (ilustrador).

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. LAW WEST OF THE PECOS: THE STORY OF JUDGE ROY BEAN, THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT, Everett Lloyd, sketches by Ben Carlton Mead, softcover, seventh printing, 1936. BOOK CONDITION: very good. The text block is in near fine condition with no dogears, marks, or tears. No bookplate or signature…of a prior owner. This is not a library book or remainder. The illustrated wraps are in very good condition. XX [From the back cover] Here is the book the book-buying public, collectors and librarians will always want. It is complete and accurate, and the illustrations are from actual photographs. In this book Everett Lloyd has written a fair, impartial and genuinely entertaining biography of a man whose life has largely been lost in enigma; one about whom many laughable stories have been told and printed. Here for the first time all the Roy Bean stories, in addition to all the facts of his life and career have been brought together in permanent form. Every fact pertaining to the life of Roy Bean will be found in this volume. XX [Wikipedia] Phantly Roy Bean Jr. (c. 1825 - March 16, 1903) was an American saloonkeeper and Justice of the Peace in Val Verde County, Texas, who called himself "The Only Law West of the Pecos." He held court in his saloon along the Rio Grande in a desolate stretch of the Chihuahuan Desert. Legend records his jurisprudence as thoroughly abnormal and in many instances comical. Although remembered as a hanging judge who said "hang 'em first and try 'em later," he never had anyone hanged. Mead, Ben Carlton [illus.] (ilustrador).
