Bellin (1703-1772) was an engineer and geographer with the French navy and it was his responsibility make maps of all known seacoasts. This set of maps produced in 1757 includes the Great Lakes, Virginia, New England, Florida, New York, Carolina & Georgia, Boston, New Orleans, Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Stiff paper covers include the usual exlibrary stamps and labels. Interior has no library marking except for an inventory number on the table of contents page. The front & back cover each have a 1 inch tear at the edge. Please view photo(s) to determine exact condition.

Extremely Rare and even rarer in this condition ! Enlarged Edition of John Ogilby's 1675 published "Britannia" with engraved plates in strip form of the principal roads of England and Wales. This being the Paris Edition by John Senex with John Ogilby's maps reduced in size and enlarged/supplemented with 12 additional maps and 17 engraved plans/plates. John Ogilby (also Ogelby, Oglivie; November 1600 4 September 1676) was a Scottish translator, impresario and cartographer. Bellin (1703-1772) was considered one of the most prominent cartographers of the 18th century in a career that lasted about 50 years. This map was first published around 1750, and shows part of Siberia and China, including part of the Great Wall and Peking. # 102337.

Taken from 'Histoire Générale de Voyages' by l'Abbé Prevost, published in Paris in 1753. From the full French title 'Carte de l'Archipel de St Lazare ou Les Isles Marianas', this map was presumably once part of a double-page spread that depicted maps of both the Mariana Islands and the Philippines. Unfortunately the second page depicting the Philippines is not present. Image size 145 x 295 mm approx, light tanning to the page edges otherwise fine condition with clear image, good colours and margins. Now in a protective plastic sleeve.

Ing de la Marine 1754. Echelle de Lieues communes de France." Laid paper on which the map is printed bears the bunch of grapes watermark commonly used by French papermakers of the mid-eighteenth century. Image size 29 x 19.5cm.

This map was first published around 1750, and features Manchuria and part of Tartary (Tartaria).

Uncoloured; overall fine condition. A small chart of the coast and inlet of St Helena Bay on the Atlantic coast of Africa north of Capetown. Jaques Nicolas Bellin (1702-720) was the most important French hydrographer of the 18th century. St Helena Bay was "discovered" by the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama on 7 Nov. 1497, during his pioneer voyage from Europe to India. He named the bay after Saint Helena, a devout, influential Christian and mother of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great.

Von 1704 bis 1709 lebte der schottische Seemann Alexander Selkirk allein auf der Isla Más a Tierra, nachdem er sich mit seinem Kapitän William Dampier zerstritten hatte und sich an Land absetzen ließ. Der Schriftsteller Daniel Defoe benutzte Selkirks Geschichte als Basis für seinen Roman "Robinson Crusoe". Das Eiland wurde 1970 in Isla Robinson Crusoe umbenannt. Gewicht in Gramm: 1000.

Uncoloured; small brown wax stain in the engraved area and another in the lower margin, minor spottingand light marginal age-toning, otherwise a fine example. Two maps after Capt. James Cook; one shows the entrance to the River Endeavour and the other of Botany Bay. Cook and his crew spent eight weeks repairing their ship (HMS Endeavour) in the estuary, during this time it allowed the two eminent botanists on the expedition - Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander to explore and gather samples. Their work was marked by the naming of two points at the entrance of Botany Bay, Cape Banks and Point Solander.

Coloured; very light age-toning to the edges of the paper, trimmed close by the binder on the bottom margin, otherwise a good example. A map of the Island of Sumatra and the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsular, also shows Singapore.

Black and white engraved map on watermarked laid paper 20.9 x 32.7cm, showing coastal area of Zhejiang Province (Province de Che-kiang) including Zhoushan Archipelago (Isle de Chusan), Zhoushan Bay (Bay de Chusan) and Xiangshan County (Siang-chan-luen), a walled city outside of upper border Ningbo (Ning-po) prefecture under Qing administration, title cartouche lower left, original folds. This map is No. 3, Vol. 6, from the impressive 15-volume "Histoire Generale des Voyages" compiled by Antoine François Prévost. Even browning mainly to the sheet edges, in very good condition.
