Magistrate, parliamentarian and senior civil servant under the Restoration, Becquey was one of the key players in the creation of an inland navigation system designed to provide France with a complete network of waterway communications, the "Becquey Plan". His work as Director General of Ponts & Chaussées and Mines also focused on seaports, lighthouses and mines. Une grande et très belle carte de France dépliante, en couleurs in-fine.Très rare rapport donné par Louis Becquey, Directeur général des Ponts et Chaussées et des Mines, aux Chambres, avant l'examen des budgets, afin de connaître l'état et les besoins des routes de France.Il est composé de très nombreux tableaux très détaillés d…es routes royales, par départements et de récapitulatifs des besoins.Louis Becquey (1760 - 1849) magistrat, parlementaire et haut fonctionnaire sous la Restauration. Son nom est attaché à un système de navigation intérieur ("plan Becquey") visant à procurer à la France un réseau complet de communication par voie navigable. Les ports maritimes, les phares, les mines sont également l'objet de son action comme directeur général des Ponts & Chaussées et des Mines. Par ses différentes actions novatrices, il participe à la ré-industrialisation du pays.

Édition originale de ce très important rapport sur… les canaux existants et à construire, composé par Louis Becquey (1760-1849), directeur de l'administration des Ponts et Chaussées (et des Mines) depuis le 17 septembre 1817. Ce plan de développement du réseau de navigation intérieure forme la principale contribution de son administration : il définissait deux axes principaux de réformes, d'une part, la création de nouvelles voies navigables sur plusieurs milliers de kilomètres (on en lit le détail sur la grande carte annexée) ; d'autre part, la standardisation de l'ensemble des voies existantes et à construire sur un gabarit unique (le gabarit Becquey, avec une longueur utile de 30,40, une largeur de 5,20 m, une hauteur sous ouvrage de 3 m).Le rapport ayant été adopté, deux séries d'effets s'ensuivirent : 1. La construction de la plupart des grands canaux latéraux (Loire, Garonne, Somme, etc.). L'État reste maître d'?uvre des travaux, mais, le financement est partiellement privé, l'exploitation et l'entretien des canaux revenant à terme à ces compagnies privées, selon un modèle qui rappelle les partenariats privé-public à la mode aujourd'hui. - 2.
