Monumental monograph on the life and work of Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571), the renown Italian goldsmith, sculptor, and draftsman of the Renaissance. Cellini is one of the most important artists of Mannerism, and is remembered for his skill in making pieces such as the Cellini Salt Cellar and Perseus with the Head of Medusa, both reproduced in this book. This work is splendidly illustrated throughout with 16 eaux-fortes by Paul le Rat, one by Baudran, 25 heliogravures by Dujardin, 4 by Lemercier, 40 b/w illustrations by Kreutzberger, and 2 woodcuts by Peulot. Some fraying and moderate abrasion to tail of spine. Minor foxing to very first leaves. Fore-edge of pages 321 to 348 slightly and partly water-stained (not affecting text or illustrations).
